About

Hey đź‘‹ I’m Joshua Guy, a Baltimore-based old time banjo player, musician, and singer. I’ve been playing music in one form or another for as long as I can remember, but no instrument has captured my heart and soul like the banjo. What draws me to it is its deep expressiveness—the way it can hold the loneliest, most haunting ballad one moment and joyous exhilaration the next, along with every shade of feeling in between.

What keeps me going is the incredible social power of making music together, and the immense feeling of joy that music gives back to me in multitudes. By day, I’m a labor organizer and a fervent believer in the collective power of working people—a belief that threads through the music I make. I draw inspiration from stories of work, struggle, and hope, weaving them through my songs and drawing the listener into the spaces between the notes.

I play primarily with Big Cricket Stringband, but I also play solo, and in small duos and trios throughout the Baltimore, mid-Atlantic and Appalachian regions.
